TEDME for educational institutions

Whether it's a lecture at university or a lesson in the sixth form - the diverse possibilities of TEDMEMaking a lesson interactive and interesting guarantees the attention and interest of pupils and students.

The tool for interaction in the classroom - online, offline or hybrid.

Interactive knowledge check

With the help of the interactive knowledge check, for example, you can determine live and with real-time evaluation during the lesson how much of the subject matter the pupils/students have taken away from the lesson.

This can either take the form of a general test of knowledge or a playful competition in which two groups can even play against each other in different rooms.

Feedback forms for course evaluation

Course evaluations are increasingly being carried out at the end of university courses to provide teachers with feedback on the course. Most lecturers use traditional questionnaires for this, which have to be printed out and filled in manually by the students. With TEDME this questionnaire becomes digital and much easier to handle: You can have the feedback form processed either live or after the event (anonymously or not) and automatically saved in the cloud. This not only simplifies the process, but also the evaluation.

Interactive presentations anytime and anywhere

Since TEDME is cloud-based, you can access your presentations with Slides anytime and anywhere. For teaching institutions such as universities, it is worth setting up several accounts (for several teachers) so that several presentations can be saved in the cloud at the same time.

What actually makes a good solution for your polls, interactions, voting, Q&A rounds and much more? Who should you trust and what should you look out for when looking at voting and interaction tools? That's exactly what this blog post is about and we hope it helps you. In addition, you are of course very welcome to contact us at any time. We are always here to help and advise you.

Voting and interaction tools that are GDPR-compliant

Data protection is a very important aspect. On the one hand, because you probably also want your data and that of your participants, members, board members, exhibitors, sponsors, speakers - in short, everyone involved - to be protected. On the other hand, you need to take care of data protection. In Germany, the GDPR is the standard and framework for all actions you take in connection with data. Of course, this also applies to the service providers you select. Therefore, if you are serious about data protection, you need a GDPR-compliant solution. This also means, among other things, that the servers that store and process the data should be located in Germany or Europe and not in countries where, as in the USA, the GDPR does not apply. Privacy Shield overturned by the EU was.

The protection of your data is important to TEDME. That's why we are transparent about how and where we store and process your data. In our Privacy policy you will see under point 4 that the servers are located in Eibelstadt and Gunzenhausen.

Many solutions that you find on the German-speaking market today already fail to fulfil this very first requirement. Take a close look. Even if the provider has a branch in Germany, ask: "How and where do you process my data?"

Make sure you use GDPR-compliant reconciliation interaction tools.

Tools that encrypt data

However, the server location alone is no guarantee that your data will be processed confidentially and in compliance with the law.

Another important aspect is that data should be transmitted in encrypted form.

That is why TEDME uses SSL encryption for all data and confidential content that you send to us, even for the first enquiry. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of your browser changes from "http://" to "https://" and by the lock symbol in your browser line.

If SSL encryption is activated, the data you transmit cannot be read by third parties.

Voting and interaction tools that dispense with Google tracking and the like

Hand on heart: How many tools do you know that completely dispense with Google Analytics or similar tracking tools? We only know of one: TEDME.

Even though we would very much like to learn more about user behaviour on our own website, the protection of your data and secure, tracking-free login to our website for all your participants is extremely important to us. That is why we do not use any tracking tools at all - even on our marketing website, which participants use to log in for an event, among other things. This clearly sets us apart from our competitors.

Tools that provide interfaces

Another important criterion for a powerful interaction or reconciliation tool is interfaces. You need these so that you can import, export or synchronise your data quickly and cleanly in your existing IT solutions.

Many other solutions for interactions, Q&A roundsThe interfaces - known as APIs - simply cannot provide you with the data you need, such as for elections, statutory elections, knowledge checks and the like. This means you always have to transport data back and forth manually. This causes a lot of effort, is often prone to errors and is never as fast as thanks to a API.

Tools that can be integrated into other websites

This may not be as hard an exclusion criterion as data security, but it is also a very important aspect from your participants' point of view. How seamlessly does the voting tool fit into your event website or event platform? Thanks to iframe integration, you can embed TEDME into any other website. Your participant no longer has to open a second browser tab or even download and install software. Everything happens where he or she already is: on your event website or platform.

Take a close look before deciding on a voting or interaction tool. Not all of them can be integrated via iframe.

Tuning and interaction tools that you can customise to your CI

You can also completely customise the appearance of the individual modules. This means that you or your web designer can customise the CSS and thus change fonts, position buttons, show and hide them and much more. Of course, we also offer this customisation as a service if you do not wish to implement it yourself.

Tools that can realise engaging Q&A sessions

Once again, it's all about your participants and the user-friendliness of your votings. This also includes the design. After all, we always eat with our eyes. Why else do we regularly go to the hairdresser and buy the latest models of smartphones, cars or clothes? Because we want to look good. That's why your event and your coordination should also look good. Take a look at the FAQ-page at TEDME. Your Q&A session could also look like this.

Tools that can do much more than just implement votes

At events in particular, in addition to voting and polls, you also need to be able to quickly Feedback formsYou want to organise surveys over a longer period of time, knowledge checks or conduct elections in accordance with the articles of association. With TEDME, you also have a solution for managing your participants. You can implement this with many different platforms and interaction tools or you can opt for one that can offer all this from a single source: TEDME. This means that your data remains in a single "pot" and you save yourself interfaces and the coordination of several IT service providers.

Voting and interaction tools that are still easy to use

There are now countless event platforms in Germany and around the world. But very often you don't even need many of the functions advertised there. Often - at least that's what our customers tell us - a clean live stream, a reliable and GDPR-compliant voting solution and all of this presented in a visually appealing way and integrated into your existing website is enough. The clear advantage for you: it remains easy to use. You don't have to go through hours of training sessions with a platform or even brief several employees on how to use it. TEDME is intuitive and therefore very easy to use - even for those who rarely need it.

Whether it's a live event on site, an online event or a hybrid version, e.g. a satellite event, you need interactive elements. These ensure that your attendees stay interested instead of just listening to the presentations and, in the worst case, leaving the room or simply closing the browser tab with a click. But how do you organise such a knowledge quiz? How can you make it exciting? Find out in this blog post.

Why a knowledge quiz adds value to your event

Interaction and networking have been an important part of events of all kinds for several years now. However, since the start of the pandemic, these aspects have become increasingly important and decide whether your participants come back next time or - if they don't decide at all - with what enthusiasm they actually absorb your messages. Frontal is out and variety is welcome. This applies today more than ever.

This is because participants only come to a live event if they can recognise added value compared to pure online participation. Pure knowledge transfer already works perfectly well via webinars and similar formats. That's why your on-site events need real added value, a real difference, compared to the virtual version. This is where networking and interaction come into play. Networking and interaction are intensive experiences, especially at live events, and are relatively easy for you as a planner to implement. If you are now hoping that you only need interactive elements at live events, we have to dash your hopes right away. After all, bored participants will be gone even faster online than at face-to-face events. After all, nobody notices and most people's to-do lists and the numerous distractions in the home office often call out much louder than organisers and planners would like.

With a knowledge quiz, you bring variety to your event and ensure that your participants can get involved. As a result, they will stay longer and remember your event more positively and for longer.

How you can implement a knowledge quiz at your event

Nowadays, you really have many options for realising a knowledge quiz at your event. In particular, we would like to show you the variants that are possible with TEDME.

The game format

Whether it's individual questions one after the other or the popular Jeopardy view with many or just a single area - with TEDME everything is possible. The process of a knowledge quiz is very simple. Just like in the popular TV puzzle show, your participants can choose from which section and for which number of points they want to answer a question.

Once they have clicked on a field, they now have to answer the question correctly. The TEDME system automatically awards the points shown in the selected field for correct answers.

The aim is for each player to collect as many points as possible in a short space of time.

If you click on a question incorrectly (in this case 4,105 metres), you will not receive any points, will be told the answer is green and will also lose valuable playing time.

Multi-player or group duels

You can organise such a knowledge quiz so that everyone plays against everyone else or so that there are groups that compete against each other. In a group game, each group receives its own TEDME pin, i.e. access to a room. Both of these options encourage competition between the participants and it depends on your event as to what works best.

For example, if you are organising an event for your company, you could have different departments or branches compete against each other. This also works perfectly for hybrid satellite events.

Tips for a hybrid satellite event: How to make a hybrid event a real success - with TEDME

But you can also set up and realise such group duels at regular live events where your participants do not know each other beforehand. In this case, for example, people in different conference rooms play against each other.

What further fuels the competition between the groups is the fact that individual players with only a few points will lower the average result of this group. It's like in sport or in professional life - one failure can drag the whole team down.

Knowledge quiz at online, onsite and hybrid events

The really good thing about a digital solution like TEDME is that you can use it to implement a knowledge quiz in all event formats.

At a live event, display the progress bars on the main stage for all participants to see. If several groups are competing against each other, we recommend that you also display the bars of the other groups in all rooms.

This can be realised in the same way for an online event. Simply play the TEDME bars in the different video rooms or on the stages in your broadcasting studio.

If you are organising a hybrid event, we recommend displaying the bars on the stage for the on-site audience and integrating the data for the online audience separately into the streaming image. The latter simply provides better image quality. This way, viewers in offices or home offices can also see the score exactly.

What you need for your knowledge quiz in addition to a good interaction tool

In addition to a good and GDPR-compliant interaction tool such as TEDME, you also need for your knowledge quiz:

  • interesting questions for the various subject areas,
  • a prize for the winner or the winning team,
  • a presentation area on your event website or on the stage to display the progress bars with the scores of the individual teams or players,
  • A sufficient number of participants and enough playing time to make the competition fun.

Chatting out of the sewing box - experiences of other organisers

In 2015, we used TEDME to organise a Jeopardy-style knowledge quiz for the first time at a medical congress with 500 doctors in three parallel rooms. We would never have thought that this playful way of engaging the audience would work so well with this target group and in the context of very serious congress topics. Since then, we have been recommending that our planners and organisers incorporate this kind of gamification into their events as a break and to liven things up.

TEDME was also successfully used by the organisers for the break during the 2019 Handball Day. The spectators were able to actively participate in the knowledge quiz and the winner was delighted to receive a fan set. From 2:48" you can see the familiar red and green TEDME bars here, which indicate whether the spectators were correct.

Conclusion

A knowledge quiz loosens up your event, encourages participants to join in and have fun and ensures that they stay longer at your event and remember it more positively. It is ideal for live events on site as well as for online events and can be easily implemented in all formats with TEDME. Do you know this? Do you have an event platform, a video conferencing tool or a streaming solution and also want to use an interaction tool like TEDME? Then make it as easy as possible for your participants, moderators and co-moderators and integrate TEDME directly. With the right parameters, you can "get a lot across". You can find out what this can be in this article.

Why you should integrate TEDME directly into your event platform at all

If you want, you can also display the TEDME surveys, polls, Q&A sessions, knowledge checks and much more via a "second screen", i.e. via the participants' smartphone or tablet. However, the vast majority of viewers as well as speakers and moderators really appreciate it when everything happens in a single browser. No extra login, no additional download. Just log in once and off you go.

Thanks to TEDME's integration options into other websites, including an event platform, you can do just that.

We will now show you in more detail how powerful the visualisation and transfer of data can be and how attractive the result, your event, can look.

Place TEDME next to your live stream

A now familiar user experience for the vast majority of participants: The video image of the live stream is on the left and the polls, Q&A rounds and all comments are on the right. Here are two examples of how you can add the TEDME elements to your live stream.

In the first example, you integrate two TEDME elements, i.e. containers, to the right of the live stream.

TEDME neben dem Live Stream in eine Event-Plattform einbinden
TEDME next to the live stream

In the second example, you can see that the TEDME functions are integrated as overlapping elements. Firstly, the voting questions appear to the right of your video image. You can also display a "Ask question" field. This is then superimposed over the window with the voting questions.

TEDME-Funktionen als überlappende Elemente in eine Event-Plattform einbinden
TEDME functions as overlapping elements

To ensure that your open session is also displayed in this area, first start the session in TEDME with an expiry date and a PIN of your choice. Then copy the desired code for the iFrame integration into your event platform. You will find the list of useful codes in the settings of your session in TEDME as soon as you are logged into your account.

Individualise the TEDME area

Customise the area that is displayed next to your live stream to suit your needs and requirements. You can integrate the following functions:

  • Voting
  • Ask a question
  • List of questions
  • chat
  • Displaying the voting result

You can also specify that

  • this room is automatically entered when the iFrame is loaded,
  • individual names of the participants are displayed,
  • the language of the user is also transferred,
  • a profile picture for the chat is transferred and displayed,
  • Determine the sorting of the participant questions
  • likewise for the chat messages
  • and much more.

Integrate several TEDME functions into the event platform in parallel

Do you have several surveys or interaction areas that you want to integrate into the event platform and only want to display one of these windows at a time? This is also possible with TEDME. The list of codes with which this can be realised can also be found in the settings of your session.

This allows you to display or realise the following actions:

If a moderator starts a voting or a participant enters the session, the voting is displayed next to the live stream.

The result of the voting is displayed when the moderator finalises a vote.
A new question is displayed when new questions in the Q&A list have been approved by a co-moderator.

Customise TEDME to your layout and that of the event platform

In addition to the CI settings for colour and logo, you or your web designer can also store individual CSS in your TEDME account under "Project settings" if you want to customise the view even further. Thanks to customised CSS, you can, for example, position the buttons the way you like them or adjust the font. This allows you to customise different areas and views of your event and your interactions, for example the participant view or the stage view for the co-host.

Integrate TEDME in different languages

Do you want to offer your event in different languages? Then you can store the questions and welcome texts in different languages.

To do this, first create the questions in your main language and save them. You can then edit the questions and transfer them into different languages. Also remember to add the iFrame code for these language options accordingly and insert it into your event platform with one click.

Multilingualism at TEDME

Conclusion

With TEDME you can integrate all interactive elements from A for voting to Z for audience questions into your event platform or your event website including live stream. Thanks to the customisable iFrame codes, you can design the TEDME area in exactly the way that best suits your event.
